A significant number of ballot slips for the Crofting Commission election are invalid and have to be replaced.

A printing error resulted in a batch of voting packs showing an incomplete address.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar - which is running the election on behalf of the Crofting Commission - has contracted a Glasgow printing firm.

The mistake was unnoticed until it was too late and ballot forms were posted to thousands of voters.

Now replacement packs are being mailed to affected electors less than two weeks before the voting deadline.

People who receive the second new mailing are advised to complete the ballot paper contained within the pack as the first form is invalid.

Electors who do not receive a replacement pack are unaffected.

All completed ballot papers should be returned by 4pm on Thursday 16 March.

The Returning Officer apologises for any inconvenience.
