Postal votes for the Crofting Commission elections have to be returned by 4pm on Thursday.

Two candidates are running for the one place in the Western Isles area.

Alasdair MacEachen of Balivanich, Benbecula, and Iain Maciver, of Laxay, Lewis, have thrown their hats into the ring.

Elections are also being held in the East Highlands, South West Highlands and West Highlands constituencies.

As only one nomination was received for Caithness & Orkney and in the Shetland constituencies each candidate is automatically elected and no election will take place.

The count takes place in Stornoway Town Hall on Friday.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is administering the election process.

Election Office spokesperson, Mairi Sine Macdonald, said: “I would urge postal voters to ensure that they post their completed ballot paper in the reply paid envelope provided in sufficient time to ensure that it is returned by the deadline.”
