Crashed helicopter salvaged from North Uist loch

19 June 2018

A crashed helicopter has been salvaged from a North Uist loch.

The pilot of the AS350 Squirrel died in the accident which occurred at Loch Scadavay, a few miles south of Lochmaddy on Wednesday.

Peter Clunas, 59, from Newburgh in Aberdeenshire was pronounced dead at the scene.

The father-of-two was the only person onboard the aircraft which was lifting a rowing boat at the time.

The helicopter has been recovered from the loch and loaded onto a truck.

It is being transported off the island to the Air Accident Investigation Branch’s base in Farnborough.
