Donald Macmillan, 73, and his wife, Morag, were discovered lying outside their home in Gravir in Pairc on 18 November.
The husband and wife perished yards from each other in freezing conditions.
A villager said they spotted a light on at the house around 3am that morning but simply thought they had forgotten to switch it off.
It is understood a local going to the house after 8am spotted Mr Macmillan lying at the bottom of steps at the front of the house. He had suffered a neck injury and restricted breathing.
Shortly afterwards, Mrs Macmillan was found yards away in a sloping part of the garden to the corner of the property. She had fallen and had sustained a head injury.
Donald Macmillan was the local postmaster for the past 50 years and was planning to retire shortly. The Gravir post office run out of his home is the last in the wider Pairc district.

She previously worked in the nearby primary school round the corner from her home and was also a home carer for a neighbour.
The couple had no children and devoted much of their time to helping good causes in the local community.
Both were regular churchgoers at nearby Gravir Free Church.
A double funeral took place in the adjoining cemetery on Friday following a service in the church.
Police said there were no suspicious circumstances involved in the incident.
Detective Inspector Richard Baird said: "The tragic and untimely deaths of Mr and Mrs Macmillan have understandably shaken the local and wider communities of the Western Isles and our sympathies extend to everyone who knew the popular and highly respected couple.”
Local councillor Philip McLean said: “One week on the community is still in shock.
“They were a lovely couple and went everywhere together. It is so sad, so tragic.”
