Comhairle publishes councillors’ expenses 2/6/14
The total for salaries and expenses for the 31 councillors at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has decreased over the past financial year, figures released today show.
Ironically, the fall is due to having less meetings about the Comhairle’s financial crisis.
The total for the financial year 2013/14 was £661,104.57 compared to £665,326.74 the previous year, despite inflationary pressures.
Councillors’ salaries are set by the Scottish Government with the leader, convener and committee chairs receiving higher salaries and tending to incur more expenses because they have more duties.
Expenses can be claimed for carrying out duties as a councillor and include costs for travel and subsistence. All claims are receipted.
