The Boundary Commission for Scotland recommends extending the Point ward to include the Parkend, Mackenzie estate and Holm area and renamed Sgìre an Rubha agus Sanndabhaig (Point & Sandwick).   

Campaigners fear their community voice will not be heard in the future.

Collecting signatures door-to-door saw all householders they spoke to oppose they move.

The petition has been handed to MSP Alasdair Allan's office to be passed onto Kevin Stewart, the Minister for Local Government.

Campaign spokesman Kenny Duncan said many were convinced they would lose the level of local council representation they presently gain through the services of councillor Charlie Nicolson.

Nearly 400 people have signed a petition against a proposed council ward enlargement.

The Sandwick, Parkend, Holm and the Mackenzie Park area is set to be removed from the Stornoway South ward and merged with neighbouring Point.
