Sir,
In his letter to Hebrides News, Cllr Angus Campbell launched an attack on Cllr
Gordon Murray's reasonable request for the council to consider creating a publicly
controlled electricity supply company, with the ability to set its own electricity
prices.
The leader of the council's political administration insists this is not possible;
he fails however to explain why? In his letter, laced sadly, with puerile attempted
put-
The situation is straight
forward; both councillors want to create an energy supply company. Cllr Murray and
the council's opposition group consider it should be wholly in the community's ownership.
Cllr Campbell and his covert Labour administration decided it must be a private company
who controls the price. The position of itself is not unreasonable as the council
often has a public and private shareholder face, in regard to asset ownership.
He
must however, explain publicly and clearly why he favours a "private firm control
of community energy prices" and such is the importance of this matter, his explanation
should be free of the personal insults which devalue the debate and demean his public
office.
