Three Stornoway barber shops closing from this weekend until further notice - Men Only (Church Street), The Barbers (Kenneth Street) and Back & Sides (Bayhead). Due to the close contact nature of the business they feel that this is the only safe course of action we can take at this time.


Lewis Crofters is introducing changes to its operations with a pay by phone and collect service and preventing access to the shop building and store to all customers. Click here for full details


All pubs, clubs and other drinking establishments should be shut by government instruction.


Sit-in food premises such as cafes and restaurants are not allowed to serve food indoors. Many are providing a takeaway service.

Ceilidh supper in aid of Crossroads Harris previously scheduled for Saturday is cancelled.


Barvas and Brue Community Centre has closed its main hall and activity room. The committee room remains open for post office services. Advance bookings are not being taken.  


Ness FC Social Club is closed. This week's ceilidh and other upcoming events are cancelled.


Advocacy Western Isles – The office is closed to the public. Advocacy services will continue by telephone, skype and e-mail.


Household Waste Recycling Centres at Habost (Ness), Urgha (Harris) and Garrygall (Barra) will be closed from Thursday 19th March until further notice


Macdonald, Maciver & Co lawyers’ office and the Western Isles Property Centre are closed to the public until the outbreak clears. Staff continue to be available either by phone on 01851 704343 or email at macdmac@aol.com so the firm continues to be of service to clients.

Taigh Chearsabhagh building currently remains open Monday to Friday.  The cafe is still serving meals under current opening hours but the situation is being reviewed daily.  The Post Office and shop within the premises will remain open until directed otherwise. The exhibition in gallery 1 is also open


All public events, Gaelic classes, workshops, art classes, talks and literary events at Taigh Chearsabhagh are cancelled or postponed.


Many churches are cancelling Sunday services and midweek prayer meetings as well as many group activities, charity fund raising lunches and cafes. Funerals and weddings continue.


The P/M Donald Macleod Memorial Piping Competition has been postponed until later in the year.


Due to the vulnerability of those living in residential care homes, the practice of conducting worship services at Dun Eisdean and Dun Berisay has been discontinued.


Citizen’s Advice offices are shut for walk-ins but islanders can get in touch by phone to their local office. Advice will be given through dedicated phone or skype appointments.


The current group meetings in the Cearn’s Ceilidh Hoose are cancelled until further notice.


Stornoway RNLI shop is shut until further notice. The station remains open to operational staff, but is closed to the public and visitors.


Stornoway RNLI quiz night on Friday is cancelled.  


Northbay’s Garadh’s Thursday café ís shut until further notice. The garadh will remains open for the time being.


The Leanne Fund is operating by phone as the office is closed.


St Barrs Hall in Northbay is closed.


All sport and leisure facilities, libraries and museums throughout the Western Isles are closed indefinitely. All after school lets are also cancelled until further notice.


HHP asks tenants to avoid any unnecessary visits to their offices as staff may not be available there. Staff are working from home and are available to speak by phone.


The Stornoway vet is asking people not to turn up if they have symptoms which could be Covid-19. On arrival people should tell reception and wait in their car until called.

 

The café, museum and historical archive at Kinloch Community Hub has shut. The launderette is presently operating, as is the charity shop but new donations are not being accepted. All activities and events that were due to take place at the hub are cancelled for the foreseeable future. This includes Kinloch Krafters, Full Circle Family Music, all future Health Walks and the Afternoon Tea Dance.


The SAC office remains open but with less staff. Customers are asked not to visit without prior discussion and agreement from the staff member they wish to meet.  


SSE has cancelled all non-essential planned electricity supply interruptions that impact customers.


Uist Gifts & Info’s shop will not open for a few weeks at least.


The Shed facility at Martins Memorial Church is shut. One hour mentoring sessions are available over Skype for any young people.


The Harris Distillery is closed to the public.

 

Solas dementia day centre in Stornoway is now closed with immediate effect until further notice.


An Lanntair arts centre is shut.


Stornoway Karate Club classes have stopped for four weeks.


The autism awareness coffee morning for Tuesday 24 March is cancelled.


Weekly bingo in the Masonic Lodge is suspended until further notice.


Stornoway Judo Club classes are off until after the Easter holidays at least.


Friday night music sessions at the Bayhead Failte Centre are cancelled.


The 60 in 2020 reunion in Stornoway has been postponed.


The Lucky2BHere defibrillator training on Thursday at the Marybank Community Hall is postponed.


Public activities in the Salvation Army hall in Stornoway have stopped, including all clubs, music practices and Sunday worship services.


The Salvation Army baby bank is open by appointment. Call 01851 705676.


The Stornoway Monday Stroke Club will not meet during the outbreak.


Lewis Camanachd’s shinty games are off,


All football association matches in the Western Isles are postponed. This covers all football - including friendly matches and training - under the jurisdiction of the Scottish Amateur Football Association.


The Callanish Visitor Centre is shutting until 25th March with a review for possible continuation of temporary closure.


The Callanish Standing Stones circles are not affected by the restrictions.


Stornoway Rugby Club’s junior training sessions are off until the end of March.  


The Hebridean Men’s Cancer Support Group have cancelled their  Friday afternoon group meetings for the next four Fridays. Their planned AGM on 25th March is also postponed.
