Hebrides News

Arrangements have been made to hold a rally in the Lewis Sports centre.

Mr Corbyn says he has a “message of hope to marginal seats” like the Western Isles which is now in the party’s sights.

Following an overnight stay in Stornoway, he will fly off to the central belt as he bids to drum up support for the party in Glasgow, Edinburgh, North Lanarkshire and Fife.

Shadow cabinet members are also visiting marginal constituencies in Scotland.

Mr Corbyn’s trip to the Western Isles has piqued the interest of a growing number of political correspondents with a large media group heading north to report on events at his first port of call.

His insistence of kicking off the five-day trip in the Hebrides delivers a major coup for the local party which sees the isles as a winnable seat.

The SNP lost votes in June’s general election when MP Angus MacNeil had his majority slashed to just over one thousand votes.

Labour reckons it can capitalise on the downward trend.

It aims for a comeback in Scottish politics having been reduced to only one MP in 2015 general election and being hammered in the May council elections.

Buoyed by the June results where they won seven seats - the party is still on an election footing.
