Controversial ferry to return to Minch route 2/7/14
The MV Finlaggan is scheduled to operate on the Skye to Lochmaddy - Tarbert triangle
route this winter.
She will replace the regular ferry MV Hebrides while the Hebrides covers the other
Western Isles’ routes over the annual refit and drydocking period.
The Finlaggan which is a new vessel built for the Islay run proved controversial
when she sailed the route at the beginning of 2013.
Locals maintained she was not reliable and that the service suffered excessive cancelled
or delayed sailings.
Cal Mac accepted the MV Finlaggan had some unexpected breakdowns at the start but
highlighted most of the disruptions were entirely due to extreme weather which would
have affected any ship on the route.
North Uist Community Council recently made representations against the Finlaggan
serving Lochmaddy.
