Two Free Church congregations in the Point district of Lewis are working towards reuniting.

For the last half century there has been two sets of Christians in the Free worshipping in different buildings in the village of Garrabost.

A rift in 1960 led to a split in the congregation in Knock Free Church.

Three years later, Point Free Church was established as a separate charge. The breakaways built a new church at School Road.

Now members and adherents of both congregations are expressing a desire to consolidate into a single body.

No official vote has been held yet.

However, responses from a questionnaire circulated among members and adherents indicated a strong consensus to continue discussions on the possibility of the two Point congregations becoming one.

Now joint services of worship will be held for a probation period.

The two kirk sessions are to hold a joint meeting and draw up a roadmap for the way ahead, taking on board the comments received on the questionnaires.
