Poor condition of local roads highlighted in Parliament 16/5/14
Jamie McGrigor, Highlands and Islands Conservative MSP, has highlighted constituents’ concerns about the poor condition of many local roads in the region.
Mr McGrigor questioned Transport Minister Keith Brown on the subject in the Scottish Parliament this week, emphasising that the many pot holes on local roads did damage to cars, were dangerous to motorcyclists and left a bad impression for tourists.
The MSP asked the minister what recent discussions he had had with local authorities in his region on the subject and whether he believed enough was being done to address concerns that had been repeatedly voiced by Audit Scotland.
Mr Brown said local road maintenance is a matter for local authorities, whose budgets were under severe pressure, and it was always possible to do more.
