The devastated community of Barra and Vatersay has set up a fundraising campaign to help families of Eilidh Macleod and Laura Macintyre who were caught up in the Manchester pop concert explosion.

Fourteen year old Eilidh was killed at the venue when Salman Abedi detonated his nail bomb.

Her friend Laura Macintyre, 15, suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment in hospital.

It is thought the bomber was close to the girls at the moment he triggered a backpack explosive device.

Twenty two people were killed in the blast and 64 injured, many of them children.

Community group, Voluntary Action Barra and Vatersay set up the JustGiving page last night.

Some £24,000 was raised by Thursday afternoon.

The organisation said: “These two young girls were victims of the barbaric terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena on Monday 22nd May.

“The incident has left the communities of Barra and Vatersay completely shocked with heavy hearts for the girls and their families.

“We ask that you show your support for the families and donate what you can.”

A separate fundraising page by Cal Mac seaman, Alan Anderson has reached nearly £30,000 for the families.”
