A number of island community initiatives are up against hundreds of groups competing in a funding scheme.

The Aviva Community Fund is sharing out a pot of money amongst small scale causes.

People can vote for their favourite project and help them get to the finals of the competition.

People have to register on the website at www.community-fund.aviva.co.uk but get 10 votes to use as they wish.

All their votes can go to one project or could be spread across a few.  Voting closes at noon on Friday.

Upgrading the village children’s playpark is the aim of Sheshader Amenities Association.

The Leanne Fund is seeking funding to roll out its services to cystic fibrosis sufferers in Grampian.

Befriending Lewis would use the money for its initiative which reaches out to people who are suffering from the effects of loneliness and isolation.

Purchasing facilities or equipment would help the Eilean Dorcha Festival become a regular music event in Benbecula.

Uist development body, Cothrom, is looking to help disaffected young people to re-engagement with the world of work through sports activities and employability skills.

Barra & Vatersay Junior sports would take professional football coaches across from the mainland to encourage youngsters to get more involved in sporting activities.
