Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has announced significant grant awards from its Community Capital Grant Fund.

 

Nearly £235,000 is being awarded across five community economic development projects.

 

Cllr Alasdair Macleod, the Comhairle’s Sustainable Development Committee Chair said: “We have seen very high quality applications from community groups wanting to develop facilities.

 

“In this round we have helped shoreside enhancements, community facilities, marine development and tourism projects.

 

Breasclete Community Association receives £29,777 to establish A multi-use dedicated pathway between the Callanish crossroads and the Callanish Visitor Centre.

 

Harris Development Ltd has been allocated £100,000 to install pontoons in East Loch Tarbert to provide a marina hub for visiting yachts and local pleasure craft.  

 

Some £50,000 goes to Grimsay Community Association for a new centre for the island which includes a cafe, Post Office, community growing and market area, gathering and performance space, local history archive, and be a venue for Gaelic as a living language.

 

Plans by Lochboisdale Development Ltd to redevelop redundant quayside space into a vibrant, attractive and commercially productive area is being awarded £30,000.

 

Comann na Mara is to get £25,000 for a shoreside development to complement the successful pontoons which were installed earlier this year in Lochmaddy.
