A total of £300,000 is earmarked to invest in island play-park facilities - including
an immediate allocation of £100,000 required to improve the ‘unmanageable’ number
of Comhairle owned play-parks.
A report which seeks council members’ approval for the much-needed funding, highlights:
“The number of play areas within the responsibility of the Comhairle for capital
and revenue investment is unmanageable and the repairs and maintenance budget is
used as a limited resource to undertake ‘make safe’ repairs.”
As a fix, a two-part investment approach is being proposed to take pressure off resources
and provide a priority list for future spend.
Comhairle asked to repair play parks
23 November 2014
This week councillors will be asked to approve £100,000 for immediate repairs.
It is proposed to draw up a priority project list for other improvements from next
year which could be allocated a further £200,000.
It is suggested the Comhairle talk with relevant people in each ward to identify
a list of potential playpark projects.
At present Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has responsibility for 30 island play-parks;
the children’s services department own a further 12 parks; two island play-parks
are owned by Hebridean Housing Partnership. Some 28 island parks are owned independently.
