Comhairle meetings in Benbecula    23/4/14

For the first time since 2002, formal meetings of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are taking place in Benbecula.

Meetings of the Audit and Scrutiny Committee, Policy and Resources Committee and the full Comhairle are being held in Lionacleit School today.

Meetings are open to the public to observe.

The most interesting meeting will be the Policy and Resources (P&R) Committee which starts at 2pm.

The full council meets at 7.30pm to ratify recommendations of service committees and today’s earlier committees.

The Audit and Scrutiny Committee meets this morning but tends to be less interesting.

Comhairle Leader Angus Campbell said: “Similar to the Scottish Cabinet meeting in Stornoway, this gives the Comhairle a chance to take the decision making process to the public and provides them with an opportunity to see the democratic process at first hand.

“In addition, it provides an opportunity for us to meet with people and hear their concerns and I am very much looking forward to the Uist meetings.”
