Comhairle launches new website

6 December 2024

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has launched its newly redesigned website, in collaboration with Big Blue Door, a digital agency who specialise in delivering digital services in the public sector.

The new website replaces the Comhairle’s temporary website which has been in place since November last year when the Comhairle was the victim of a cyber-attack.

This significant update aims to enhance user experience, accessibility, Gàidhlig content and overall functionality, ensuring that residents and visitors can easily access the information and services they need.

Malcolm Burr, chief executive of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar said: “The launch of the new website is a significant step forward for the Comhairle both in terms of our cyber-attack recovery and in the accessibility of our information to the public.

“I have said previously that where possible the Comhairle will aim to improve our service in our recovery, and in this case I think that we have done exactly that.

“I would like to express my thanks to Big Blue Door for their work and to the Comhairle’s IT team for the tireless work in both the quick implementation of the temporary website and the development of the new website we see today.”

The website heavily relies on Google Translate function to display pages in Gaelic. The default language of the site is English with tool used to translate content into multiple languages.

Online forms are becoming the primary method for residents to interact with the council says the comhairle. People can  submit enquiries, report issues, request a service or make a payment and get their enquiry “efficiently resolved.”

The local address finder has been restored. On mobile phones it now integrates with Google or Apple Maps to give directions from the user’s current location.
