Stornoway coastguard search and rescue helicopter airlifted an unwell captain from a fishing vessel 80 miles north of Lewis.

The trawler crew contacted UK Coastguard at about 1.30pm yesterday and plans were set in motion to airlift the captain as soon as possible.

Although the sea conditions were rough, the helicopter pilot said the vessel’s crew were well organised which meant that the winch job went quickly and smoothly.

The casualty was airlifted to hospital in Stornoway.

There is no word on his condition.
