“Very close result” in Western Isles predict YES camp 19/9/14
The Western Isles Yes/No result is going to be very close islands’ MSP Alasdair Allan said as the count in Stornoway nears its third hour.
“My impression is it will be a close result here,” he said. “More than that [nationally] I don’t know yet.”
The plane bringing Barra and the Uists ballot boxes has now left Benbecula.
It may bring a swing for the Yes camp Dr Allan said: “Barra and the Uists is where the indications have been good.
“What’s different in this referendum is that so many more people are voting then every before so it’s difficult to call. My feelings are it will be close.”
He added: “Whatever the national result will be it is going to be very difficult to put all this back in the bottle.
“People now have an expectation that Scotland should get real powers, I don’t mean what’s on offer now from the UK government, but real powers.”
