Clansman to replace broken Stornoway ferry       8/3/13

The MV Clansman is to replace the broken down Stornoway ferry from Saturday.

The MV Isle of Lewis has been stuck in Stornoway harbour all day Friday and was unable to fulfil her two return sailings across the Minch.

She developed “technical problems” with her starboard propulsion unit on Thursday and the fault will take some time to fix.

However, the MV Isle of Lewis may face weather problems in getting off the Number 3 berth to allow the Clansman, which is coming from Oban, to stand in.

A CalMac spokesman said: "Repairs are continuing on the MV Isle of Lewis which developed a mechanical fault last night, and these look set to continue for several days.

“In the meantime, the MV Clansman is making her way to Stornoway and we expect her to be there in time to resume the service at 7am tomorrow (Saturday).

“We are doing everything we can to bring the MV Isle of Lewis back into service as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused."

The cancellation caused further disruption for freight lorries which had diverted from last night’s cancelled voyage of the MV Muirneag.

Meanwhile, the Muirneag will not sail tonight (Fri) due to rough seas.
