Scottish Citylink has started using larger coaches on its Inverness -
Coaches carrying 61 passengers are replacing 49 seaters as Plaxton Panther 15 metre vehicles commence on the route.
Citylink said it acted on feedback from passengers and stakeholders to maximise the space available to passengers, particularly during peak travel times.
The additional seats will “inevitably improve” the journey experience for travellers.
The timetable remains the same with two journeys per day, six days a week and one trip on a Sunday.
Operations director for Scottish Citylink, Peter Knight said: “We’re introducing these larger coaches with greater capacity to ensure customers have a much more enjoyable and comfortable journey on the 961 service.
“We will continue to monitor capacity closely and add additional coaches where necessary, 12 more seats available for booking per departure will inevitably improve things for all travellers on this service.”
The comhairle’ transport chairman, Uisdean Robertson, welcomed the upgrade.
He said: “This should reduce the number of times additional coaches will be needed, particularly at peak times.
“It is still important to remember that seats should be booked in advance to ensure that demand is met.”
