Citylink is to lay on additional buses to cope with increased demand for islanders on the Ullapool - Inverness route.

The firm will provide an extra bus for Stornoway ferry passengers on Wednesday and Thursday.

People travelling to take part in the Royal National Mòd in Oban and families enjoying the school holidays had found these services were fully booked by Monday afternoon.

MSP Alasdair Allan made the case for the bus company to run further vehicles on these days.

Alasdair Allan said: “I’m pleased that Citylink has responded promptly and helpfully to my request in this instance to prevent Mòd travellers and families enjoying the school holidays from being stranded.

“This bus connection constitutes a lifelines service as it is vital for onward connections for people coming from the islands.

"I trust that Citylink will continue to work to ensure it meets the public’s needs all year round in the future.”
