A collection tin has been stolen from the Salvation Army church in Stornoway.

Between £20 to £100 is estimated to have been taken.

The theft was discovered on Wednesday morning.

It is believed the tin was removed sometime on Tuesday, when the building was open for a lunch club.

It was last seen on Sunday and the church was not used on Monday.

Police suspect the culprit is paying for goods with lots of small change.

The tin was used as an honesty box for people buying the Salvation Army magazines such as the War Cry.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them on 101 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
