Michelle Smith of Shawbost won the fancy dress run for primary school ages.

A large crowd attended the annual Stornoway Christmas lights switching-on ceremony on Friday evening.

The weather stayed chilly but dry for the main proceedings in Perceval Square with the rain holding off until after the fireworks display.

Some 30 adults and children - many in festive dress - took part in the Christmas Dash fun run.

Lewis Pipeband performed at the event. Music was also provided by the Lewis and Harris junior concert band and the crowd joined in with the carol singing.

The Christmas Message was delivered by Iain Macmillian, principal of the Lews Castle.

Point youngster Alice Macmillan - who won numerous prizes for singing and music at the Royal National Mod - performed the Christmas lights switch-on.

Santa was in his grotto in Pointers and local groups set up stalls in the town hall.

Prizes were awarded for the best shop and hotel Christmas window display.
