Christians and independence debate      12/9/14

An opportunity for Christians to raise issues of concern to them about independence is being offered at an open debate being staged in Stornoway Town Hall tonight (Fri).

It is expected the audience can put questions to the panel which is made up of Christians with different political points of view.

The public debate which starts at  7.30pm will be chaired by Rev Iain D Campbell.

Mr Campbell said: “I imagine issues such as the growing secularism of our society will be raised, what will happen to the Protestant constitution of the UK if Scotland becomes independent, what an independent Scotland will be like for the Christian faith.

“Given the strength of the Christian faith within the local population I think it’s good to have this opportunity and I’m looking forward to what questions and concerns will be raised on the night.”

The three panellists speaking for the Yes campaign are Neil DM MacLeod, John MacDonald and Dave Thompson MSP

Arguing the case for the No campaign are Morag Munro, Murdo MacLennan and Dr Neil Davies.
