Children’s Services Worker

Ref: RS100321

Stornoway

Casual hours

£8.65 to £9.26 per hour

About us:

Three of our services need casual staff to help cover annual leave, sickness and other absences. If successful we will decide where you could initially work based on qualifications and experience.

Hillcrest Residential: Hillcrest is a 5 bedded unit which works with children and young people who are no longer able to stay at home and also provides short breaks for children with additional support needs. You would work as part of a team, on a shift basis. The unit is open 24 hours per day, 7 days per week so shifts include evenings, holiday periods and weekends. Sleepovers can also be included.

Outreach Respite: we offer packages of outreach respite for children and young people with disabilities, after school, early evenings, weekends and holidays. You would work alongside experienced staff offering individualised activities and outings.

Weekend Streetwork Service: We provide a weekend evening service for young people who may be using alcohol and/or substances. The team are available and visible around the town centre every weekend. You would work alongside experienced staff on a rota basis.

Your role:

For all three services you would require experience of working with children and young people who may have shown challenging behaviour. You would need to be a good communicator and have the ability to record factually. IT skills are essential. Being able to work as part of a team, follow care plans, policies and procedures. Be creative and get involved in activities with young people.

What you’ll need:

Hillcrest requires minimum qualifications of an HNC and SVQ3 in childcare. However we would consider staff if they had one of the qualifications or was working towards. If successful you would need to register with SSSC. Outreach Respite and the Weekend service do not require formal qualifications but do require previous relevant experience. Driving licence would be desirable.
