Children’s Services Practitioner

Fixed Term

37 hours per week

Salary: min £23,500 per annum, pro rata + Western Isles Living Allowance

Our OHADP funded projects are a vital part of our work across the Outer Hebrides. As a Children's Service Practitioner you will be based in Uist and covering outreach work in Barra. However, you will be working alone, and be supported by the Action for Children team based in Lewis.

 

You will be working with children, young people and their families from pre-birth to adulthood. Your role will involve working with children and families affected by parental alcohol and substance misuse, and also with young people who are engaging in harmful or offending behaviours involving alcohol and other substances.

 

You will work with the parents to build up their parenting skills, bonding and attachment, boundary setting, improving wellbeing and welfare including home visits. You will mirror good parenting skills including play, healthy eating, routines and boundaries as well as providing a strong and reliable mentoring support service for young people.

 

You will also work within schools, health settings and local communities with partner agencies to ensure each child and family receive the best support and signpost to them to access appropriate resources.

What you'll need:

· Previous experience working with children and young people aged 0-18 years.

· Previous experience of delivering family support.

· Understanding of substance misuse and the impacts it may have on the child or young person.

· Minimum of HNC and SVQ3 or equivalent relevant qualification.

· Report writing and computer skills.

· Good verbal and communication skills and ability to work in partnership.

· Driving licence and access to a vehicle.

· Essential training will be provided.
