A 10-year-old boy from Lewis has shaved his head for charity - and cut six seconds off his personal best swim time as a result.

Findlay Read, from Point, shaved off his shoulder-length locks to raise funds for the Lymphoma Association.

He was inspired to raise money for the charity as his teacher has been unable to attend school for the past two years because of lymphoma - a cancer which affects the immune system.

Findlay, who has raised over £900 through his epic haircut, said: “We all wish he could be with us in the class.

“I was really pleased I’ve been able to help the charity.”

Every 40 minutes, another person learns that they have lymphatic cancer - and for most it’s the first time they’ve heard of it.

The Lymphoma Association is the only charity in the UK solely dedicated to supporting them.

Findlay’s chopped-off locks are being been sent to the Little Princess Trust which provides real hair wigs for children suffering from hair loss.

In an added personal bonus, Findlay has discovered since his dramatic cut has been an improvement in his swim times.

Without a mop of hair and a swim cap, the 10-year-old came first in his heat at the recent North Scotland Schools swim competition and took a massive six seconds of his personal best time.
