The Harris Tweed Authority board has announced a new management team.

Calum Iain Maciver, former depute chief executive of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has been appointed interim chief executive at Harris Tweed Authority (HTA).

Outgoing chief executive, Lorna Macaulay, who has been in the role for 17 years is leaving to take up a new role as a director with MG Alba in January Kelly Macdonald, currently a Development Officer with the HTA is promoted to the position of Operations Manager.

Acting chairman Alasdair Macleod, said: ‘We are thrilled to have been able to appoint Calum Iain and Kelly into these important management roles at the HTA.

“Calum Iain brings with him a wealth of senior management experience, strategic leadership and is hugely well regarded in the local business community.  

“Kelly Macdonald, who has been with the HTA for approximately one year is a former mill worker and a former Harris Tweed weaver and brings industry and textiles experience to her new position.”

Lorna has been a “passionate and focused champion” of the Harris Tweed industry, he highlighted.

“She took up her post when the industry was in the doldrums with an historic low point in output and prospects for an Clo Mòr looking bleak.

“The first years were daunting and extremely challenging but by dint of hard work, professional drive and the ability to encourage others to share a vision of restoring Harris Tweed as a global iconic product, Lorna, with others,  helped the industry to reset it’s course.

“Lorna’s contribution to the HTA and the industry in general has been immense but she always prefers to praise others for the remarkable turnaround of Harris Tweed in recent times.

“She will be missed at the HTA but we wish her well in the next exciting and challenging chapter in her career.”
