An American sailor suffering from severe chest pains was airlifted to the Stornoway hospital yesterday.
The casualty was onboard the warship USS Vicksburg on manourves in the Minch for the NATO Joint Warrior exercise.
He was detained in hospital overnight. Following treatment he was discharged into the care of the Fishermen’s Mission who assisted in the transfer by US military helicopter back to his ship.
The USS Vicksburg is a guided missile carrier with 350 men on board.
