Voting starts in Carloway Estate buyout ballot    16/2/14

The Carloway Estate buyout ballot is underway with 502 people issued with voting slips.

The estate includes Callanish, Breasclete, Tolsta Chaolais as well as the townships of Doune, Kirivick and Knock within Carloway.

16 and 17-year-olds from the estate Carloway Estate are taking part in the ballot over buying the land.

The Galloway family which own the land are willing sellers.

The buyout steering group has asked Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to organise the ballot.

ballot are being mailed outs area will be arriving over the next few days. The Ballot is being run on behalf of the Carloway Estate Trust by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.

Diane Macdonald from the Comhairle’s election team advised: “When you receive your postal pack make sure you read and follow the instructions carefully before completing your ballot paper. “

She stressed ballot papers must be returned by no later than 4pm on Monday 24 February 2014 to be included in the count.
