Vote date set for Carloway Estate community land buyout ballot       22/1/14

People living on the Carloway Estate on Lewis are to vote over taking control of the land.

Less than 1,000 people live on the estate which includes Callanish, Breasclete, Tolsta Chaolais as well as the townships of Doune, Kirivick and Knock within Carloway.

The other half of Carloway, north and east of the Carloway bridge, is excluded as it falls under a different ownership.

The Galloway family which own the land are willing sellers.

A postal ballot is being held next month and voting slips must be returned by 4pm on Monday 24 February 2014. The count takes place in Breasclete Community Centre later that evening.

The buyout steering group has asked Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to organise the ballot.
