Funeral for teenager who died from crash injuries            12/9/14

 

The funeral of a teenage footballer who died following a car crash in South Uist takes place on Saturday.

 

Carl Macphee died after the vehicle he was travelling in went off the road near the Co-op store at Daliburgh last weekend.

 

The apprentice electronics engineer and four teammates in the Iochdar Saints Football Club were in the same car, heading home after a game against Eriskay.

 

No other vehicle was involved in the collision which occurred as they drove northward along the main road through the south end of the island.

 

His funeral takes place at Ardkenneth Church, Iochdar, at 1pm.

 

The cortege will head to Nunton Cemetery where Carl will buried.

 

Nicknamed DoDos, he lived in Rhughasinish, in the Lochcarnan district in the north east end of South Uist, with mother Helena, father Ronnie and young sisters Abagail and Stephanie and Abigail. He also has an older brother called Brendan.

 

The family have asked that, rather than wreathes, donations be made to Iochdar Playing Fields Association for the development of a football pitch for Iochdar Saints.
