Careless driving      5/1/12

A Lewis motorist has been fined £1,000 for careless driving.

Gordon Maciver of 27 Knock, Carloway, previously pleaded guilty to driving at 60mph in a 30mph zone in Tarbert, Harris on 3rd July last year.

He had also admitted having one worn tyre plus a third charge of having his offside rear wheel rubbing against the wheel arch.

At Stornoway Sheriff Court yesterday (wed) procurator fiscal David Teale said the 21 year was spotted revving and speeding past a police officer in a stationary marked car parked at the local police station at 6.30pm. A car chase ensue with a police car persuing Maciver for two miles.

Lawyer Angus Macdonald provided three character reference letters and successfully argued his client should be allowed to keep his licence, otherwise he would lose his job as a plumber.
