Careless driving

A distracted motorist who collided with the car in front received three penalty points on his licence when his case was called at Stornoway Sheriff Court today.

Colin Alexander Mackenzie of 19 Leurbost, Lewis, pleaded guilty to careless driving at Willowglen Road, Stornoway.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith said the 76-year-old failed to notice the vehicle ahead of him had stopped. he applied the brakes but his car slid on the wet road.

Mackenzie's lawyer said his attention was distracted by hitchhikers in a dangerous position.
