A motorcyclist has been fined for colliding with a car when he overtook a lorry in the face of oncoming traffic, a court has heard.

Calum Angus Macleod of Laxay, South Lochs, Lewis, pleaded guilty to careless driving on a motorbike.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard the 51-year-old lost control of his motorcycle and smashed into a car, damaging both vehicles on the main road near the Keose junction in Lewis in October last year.

Procurator fiscal, Karen Smith, told the court it was an “ill thought manoeuvre.”

Honorary sheriff Iain Macleod fined him £180 and imposed three penalty points on his licence.
