The victim of a car crash was injured with a fractured skull and collarbone, a bleed on the brain, required ten stitches.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard the female casualty spent four days in hospital until she was discharged at her own request.

Iona Campbell, 20, of 122 Cross Skigersta Road, Ness, Lewis, pleaded guilty by letter to careless driving which caused the traffic accident at Upper Barvas, Lewis, at 2.30pm on 21 November.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith said Campbell’s red vehicle was heading north when it drove into the back of the casualty’s stationary car signalling to turn right. Campbell was treated for shock after the collision.

Sheriff David Sutherland fined her £300 with three months to pay. He also imposed five points on her licence.
