A cyclist who collided with a car has been ordered to pay £300 compensation.

Domhnall Chalum Macleod of Macmillan Brae, Stornoway, previously pleaded guilty to careless bicycle riding which happened when he rode off a pavement onto the road into the face of an oncoming vehicle.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard the 25-year-old injured himself while both car and bicycle were damaged in the collision in Bayhead, Stornoway.

Sheriff David Sutherland also disqualified Macleod for five years for a separate offence of driving a car at Carloway in June while banned and for having no valid insurance.

Macleod who previously admitted both charges was convicted of possessing a quantity of morphine on a separate occasion.

The sheriff also imposed a drug treatment and testing order.
