An islander who stole a car from Kiln Ridge in Stornoway has been ordered to pay £300 to its owner.

Don Alexander Munro whose address was given as Acres Hostel, Island Road, Stornoway, was sentenced at Stornoway Sheriff Court.

The 26-year-old, who admitted other motoring offences was also banned from driving for 12 months and received three penalty points.

In addition, he was sentenced to a two year community payback order for other incidents including stealing alcohol from a supermarket, dishonestly appropriating groceries, confectionary and alcohol from a storehouse, and using threatening behaviour.

Sheriff David Sutherland ordered him to undertake 180 hours of unpaid work and banned him from drinking alcohol for two years. He also imposed a 10pm to 6am curfew until March 2017.
