A motorist driver who smashed a car into a house has appeared in court.

Heather Anne Macrae pleaded guilty to careless driving.

Stornoway Sheriff Court heard the 21-year-old lost control of the vehicle by the approach to the Ford Terrace housing scheme in Tong, Lewis.

On the way into town, she failed to negotiate a bend in the road, collided with the kerb, careered off the road and crashed into the house.

Sheriff Raymond McMemamin imposed a £350 fine to be paid at £50 per month.

Macrae of Glenburn Cottage, Eishken, Lewis, also received four points on her licence.

Three occupants in the car had been taken to hospital for observation after the collision.

The car ended up taking out a lower part of a privately-owned ex-council residence in the early hours of Sunday 24 May.
