A Lewis motorist had his car seized following a court appearance.

Norman Angus Gillies of the Acres, Inaclete Road, Stornoway, appeared from custody at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

It is alleged the 55-year-old failed to provide police officers with two breath tests to ascertain the level of alcohol in his system and assess if he was fit to drive when using the vehicle on the town’s Shell Street.

Gillies denied the charge and faces a trial in August.

Sheriff David Sutherland imposed an interim driving ban until then.

Procurator fiscal Karen Smith was granted a motion to impound the vehicle until then.
