A lorry driver checking his rearview mirror was horrified to spot a car veering off the road and plunging into a loch.
He braked and ran to help the woman inside the sinking vehicle who had apparently smashed the rear window to escape after it ploughed 30 metres down an embankment at Loch Gille Chìopain in Aline, South Lochs, on Tuesday.
The sole occupant clambered out of her flooding car and and swam through the freezing water to safety of the shore.
A passing couple stopped their car and sped the casualty to hospital in Stornoway.
