Islander dies from car crash injuries       17/6/14

 

A 24-year old Lewis man has died three days after sustaining very serious injuries in a car crash on Lewis.

 

Iain Ruairidh Gillies of Skigersta, Ness, died in Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

 

A spokesperson for NHS Greater Glasgow gave a short statement on behalf of the family.

 

She said: “On behalf of the Gillies’ family, we can confirm Mr Gillies sadly passed away today (Tues).

 

“The family would like to thank the staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.”

 

Iain Gilles was in a critical condition since his Ford Focus car collided with a a stone wall in the village of Lionel, in Ness, in the north of Lewis, at 12.50am on Saturday morning.

 

He was airlifted to Paisley and was receiving urgent treatment in the intensive care unit in the mainland hospital.
