Air passengers experienced a series of lengthy delays and cancelled flights from different directions on Sunday.

Inbound and the outward services were affected over the day.

The Edinburgh service was diverted to Glasgow, understood to be due to technical issues.

The Inverness plane was also running late, again believed to be the result of a technical matter.

Unfortunately, snow caused problems at Stornoway Airport, further affecting the late aircrafts.

One irate passenger suggested the incoming Glasgow flight circled the airport a few times before being forced to return to the mainland without landing.

All three flights were eventually cancelled.

However, the airport's online flight information board displaying misleading details about the situation.

An update showing the Glasgow plane was cancelled later disappeared on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the board wrongly continued to suggest the afternoon Edinburgh and Inverness flights were simply delayed.

Travellers hoping for more accurate data from Loganair's website were out of luck with its information about 48 hours old.
