Western Isles ferry services which have not been confirmed as cancelled are on amber alert for Monday and may be put off at short notice.

A series of gales and wild seas is playing havoc with west coast ferry services.

The South Uist and Barra route has been the worse affected - with the MV Isle of Arran forced to make a run out to the Outer Isles to pick up disrupted passengers and traffic during a lull in the weather on Saturday.

The MV Clansman cancelled her services on the same run yesterday and today. The Isle of Arran's outbound run from Oban depends on the weather.

Cal Mac warned intending travellers more timetable chaos was likely “given the adverse weather forecast over the next few days.”

The Stornoway ferry is staying in harbour this morning. Weather permitting, she will pick up a backlog of traffic at 2pm from Stornoway.

The overnight freight service was cancelled.

All Western Isles ferries - apart from the MV Hebrides - were weatherbound in port yesterday (Sun) due to rough seas and high winds.
