Hebrides News

All Western Isles ferry services suffered cancellations due to a severe gale sweeping over the islands.

Skippers intend to resume sailings if wind and swell conditions eases later in the day.

The only ferry operating so far on Thursday is the Loch Bhrusda which dashed out for one return run between Barra and Eriskay during a lull. Her mid-morning sailing is cancelled however, and the remaining two runs are on amber alert.

The Stornoway ferry has been tied up since last night and did not make the freight run nor this morning's passenger sailing.

An amended timetable will operate on the Uig triangle route. The MV Hebrides is presently weatherbound in Lochmaddy.

The MV Clansman has been stuck in Castlebay since yesterday. She is due to sail for Oban at 3.15pm. The outbound morning service was cancelled.
