
Canadian Gaelic students visit Lewis 5/9/10
A group of Gaelic students from Canada have been visiting Lewis.
The 5th Year pupils from Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia were on the island as part of an international exchange visit to Scotland.
At an event hosted by Western Isles Council convenor Alex Macdonald presented a plaque to the Canadian school.
It was accepted by Gaelic teacher Roddie Macdonald whose links are with Skye. He teaches Gaelic as a secondary school subject at Charlottetown Rural High School on Prince Edward Island. Charlottetown offers the language as a topic to senior pupils.
Many of the visiting students hail from a Hebridean and Scottish ancestry with a number of Macneils, Macdonalds and Macleods in the class.
