Maritime emergency services swung into action after a kayaker capsized off at outside Loch Broom at a position north west of Ullapool on Wednesday evening.

Coastguard rescue teams from the closest bases at Achiltuibuie and Ullapool were mobilised after the alarm was raised just after 6pm  

Stornoway coastguard rescue helicopter was called out to the person in the water while Lochinver lifeboat sped to the scene.

CalMac ferry MV Loch Seaforth had departed Ullapool and was near the Summer Isles when on hearing an emergency broadcast undertook a hard turn and diverted towards the casualty.

The rescue helicopter airlifted the kayaker onboard the aircraft.
