A temporary managing director has been selected to take charge at Cal Mac.

The ferry firm’s parent company, David MacBrayne Limited, appointed in-house senior manager Robbie Drummond.

Mr Drummond - who takes the helm on Monday - is present interim director of service delivery with cal Mac. He was also former finance chief for the ferry group.

David McGibbon, chairman of David MacBrayne, said the board is “delighted” with the move.

He added: “We have a contract to deliver the lifeline ferry services under the CHFS 2 contract until 2024 and, whilst we face challenging times, Robbie’s experience as group finance director and, more recently, as interim director of service delivery will, I believe, stand him in good stead in the period ahead and even more so as we look towards the future.”

Mr Drummond will assume responsibility for operational matters relating to CalMac Ferries and will also assume responsibilities for delivery of the current Gourock/Dunoon contract operated by Argyll Ferries.

The process to recruit a chief executive for David MacBrayne will soon get underway.
